A walk in Bloomsbury, London

Essays, dissertation, master applications... these are definitely busy days!

For this reason, the illustration we're showing you today 
is of a relaxed everyday look :)

This afternoon, taking a break from uni stuff, we went for a walk in Bloomsbury, 
one of our favourite areas in central London, not far from our home.

We hope you like the pictures we took!

Nel pomeriggio abbiamo deciso di concederci una pausa dallo studio

una delle nostre zone preferite di Londra, a pochi passi da casa.

Fashion in Films: Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Inspired by the upcoming Oscar Night, 
we made this illustration of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, 
written and directed by Woody Allen in 2008.

With an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 
Vicky Cristina Barcelona is surely a good film
as well as one of our personal favourites.

What do we think is really special about it? 
The magic and poetic Spanish atmosphere, the evocative soundtrack 
and the passionate relationship between the three main characters.

We hope you'll be able to feel at least a bit of the emotional richness that we experienced watching this film!

Ispirate dall'imminente Notte degli Oscar, vi proponiamo questa illustrazione 
del film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, scritto e diretto da Woody Allen nel 2008.

Con un giudizio positivo dell'82% su Rotten Tomatoes, 
Vicky Cristina Barcelona è sicuramente un bel film e uno dei nostri preferiti. 

Cosa lo contraddistingue e lo rende spettacolare, a nostro parere? 
La magica e poetica atmosfera spagnola, l'evocativa colonna sonora 
e l'appassionata relazione fra i tre personaggi principali.

Speriamo, con questa illustrazione, di trasmettere anche solo una piccola parte 
della ricchezza di emozioni che ha suscitato in noi questo film!

How to Wear: Faux Fur

Last term at uni we took a short course on the role of animals in society 
and in the enactment of human identity.

Inevitably, we also talked about the current and controversial issue 
of the relationship between fur and fashion.

If, on the one hand, fur -and in particualr big soft fur coats- 
have become symbols of sophisticated, decadent and sensual femininity, 
social prestige and luxurious taste, 
it is also true that nowaways fur wearers are increasingly seen 
as cruel animal torturers.
Where do we stand? Fake fur is the way to go!
Fur surely looks good, and a lot of A/W 2010 collections proved it. 
But that doesn't mean we have to kill animals!
As Karl Lagerfeld said: "fake is not chic [...] but fake fur is"!

Durante lo scorso term all'università abbiamo frequentato un breve corso 
sul ruolo degli animali nella società e nella caratterizzazione dell'identità umana.
Inevitabilmente, si è anche fatto il punto sul dibattito attuale 
e sulla controversa relazione tra pelliccia e moda.
Se, da un lato, la pelliccia - morbidi e ampi cappotti in pelliccia... - è diventata simbolo di una femminilità sofisticata, decadente e sensuale, di prestigio sociale e gusto per il lusso, 
è anche vero che oggigiorno chi indossa pellicce autentiche 
è sempre più spesso considerato come un crudele torturatore di animali.
Da che parte stiamo noi? La pelliccia ecologica è la soluzione!
Le pellicce sono sicuramente belle ed eleganti... 
...e molte delle collezioni A/I 2010 lo hanno dimostrato. 
Ma questo non significa che sia necessario uccidere gli animali!
Come ha detto Karl Lagerfeld: "fake is not chic [...] but fake fur is"!

We usually tend not to go to Notting Hill on Saturdays because don't like to shop in crowded places, 
but today we made an exception!

And it seems like we did the right thing, since 
we found a lot of nice clothes and an issue of Harper's Bazaar from 1985 for only 50p :)

We've always had an interest in fashion advertising images, 
and we especially enjoy doing semiotic analysis of ads for uni. 

We were particularly struck by the adverts we saw in this magazine, 
so we decided to share them with you. 

Can you picture them in contemporary magazines?

 Isn't it shocking how much the ideals of style and beauty have changed in only 25 years?

Non andiamo mai a Notting Hill il sabato perchè preferiamo evitare le folle di turisti,
ma oggi abbiamo fatto un'eccezione...

...ed è stata una buona idea, a giudicare dagli acquisti della giornata!

Abbiamo trovato dei bellissimi vestiti e un numero di Harper's Bazaar del 1985 per soli 50p :)

Le immagini pubblicitarie ci hanno sempre attratto,
e ci divertono gli studi di analisi semiotica per l'università.

Le pubblicità in questa rivista ci hanno colpito particolarmente
e abbiamo deciso di condividerle con voi.

Riuscite a immaginarle nelle riviste che troviamo oggi nelle edicole?

Non è impressionante vedere come gli ideali di stile e di bellezza siano cambiati in soli 25 anni?

Polo Ralph Lauren Teddy Bears

Did you know that Ralph Lauren
made and dressed up lovely teddy bears too?

We found  these three lovely Polo Ralph Lauren teddy bears at home, 
when we went to Italy for the Christmas holidays. 

They've been there for such a long time that we almost forgot we had them! 

We thought that they deserved some attention, and decided to make this post :)
