When we were kids, at school, during lunch break, we used to play pretend that we were Spice Girls all the time (Rosa would always be Posh Spice while Carlotta always impersonated Baby Spice). That's why, we couldn't even think of turning down an invitation to the Viva Forever! musical, based on the songs of the Spice Girls for a review on Illustrated Moodboard.
After reading a few bad reviews, we didn't set our expectations too high but, we have to admit, we left London Piccadilly's Theatre with a smile on our faces.
The theatre was packed out with bunches of girls and young women (and men), and even a bachelorette party group singing and dancing to the music and having a great time.
The story, by Jennifer Saunders, is simple: Viva is a talented singer and member of a four-piece girl band. On the final round of audition of a popular TV show, Viva is asked to decide between going through without the other girls or abandon her dreams. Celebrity puts a strain on Viva's relationship with her mother and friends...
The musical is lively and colourful; the songs by the Spice Girls are catchy and the cast is young and enthusiastic.
We were also delighted with its unpretentiousness. Viva Forever! is light, fun and easy going as musicals should be.
The musical will close down at the end of June, so we recommend to book your tickets now to save disappointment!
Quando eravamo piccole, a scuola, durante la pausa pranzo, giocavamo sempre alle Spice Girls (Rosa impersonava Posh Spice e Carlotta Baby Spice). Quando ci hanno invitato al musical Viva Forever!, basato appunto sulle canzoni delle Spice Girls, per una review su Illustrated Moodboard, non abbiamo pensato nemmeno per un secondo di rifiutare.
Dopo aver letto alcune review negative, le nostre aspettative non erano altissime, ma dobbiamo ammettere che abbiamo lasciato il Piccadilly Theatre di Londra con il sorriso.
Il pubblico era composto da ragazze e giovani donne (e uomini), e c'era persino un gruppo che festeggiava un addio al nubilato cantando e ballando.
La storia, scritta da Jennifer Saunders, è semplice: Viva è una giovane e talentuosa cantante, membro di una girl band con altre quattro ragazze. Al round finale dell'audizione per uno show televisivo, a Viva viene imposto di scegliere se continuare il percorso senza le compagne, o abbandonare il suo sogno.
La celebrità mette in crisi il suo rapporto con la madre e le amiche...
Il musical è vivace e colorato; le canzoni delle Spice Girls sono catchy, e il cast giovane e appassionato.
Abbiamo anche apprezzato la sua semplicità e l'assenza di grandi pretese. Viva Forever! è leggero e divertente, esattamente come dovrebbe essere un musical.
La rappresentazione di Viva Forever! terminerà alla fine di giugno: vi consigliamo di prenotare subito per evitare delusioni!
