Apu Jan SS14 The Signal

WHO	Apu Jan, Taiwanese designer, Royal College of Art graduate, specialised in knitwear.
WHERE	Freemasons Hall, Gallery.
INSPIRATION	The way signals (TVs, mobile phones, the internet, the wings of a bee) have both a direct and a subconscious effect on our daily lives. The concepts of signifier and signified.
COLOURS	Shades of red and pink with bold black highlights.
SHAPES	Romantic orient-inspired silhouettes mixed with subtler, darker, grunge street style elements.
MATERIALS	Intricate knit patterns and floral prints (the result of a collaboration with fellow RCA graduate Wu Ying) creating a complex three-dimensional web. Silk and cotton yarn.
WEAR IT	To watch the sunrise from a skyscraper after a night out in the city.

DOVE	Freemasons Hall, Gallery.
ISPIRAZIONE	La maniera in cui vari segnali (televisori, telefoni cellulari, internet, ma anche il battito d'ali di un'ape) hanno sulle nostre vite effetti sia diretti che inconsci. I concetti di significante e significato.
COLORI	Sfumature di rosso e di rosa, con tocchi di nero.
FORME	Sihouette romantiche di ispirazione orientale, mescolate ad elementi meno evidenti, piu' dark che strizzano un occhio al grunge di strada.
MATERIALI	Maglieria intricata e stampe floreali (risultato di una collaborazione con Wu Ying, anche lei ex studende della RCA)
DA INDOSSARE	Guardando l'alba dalla cima di un grattacielo dopo una notte trascorsa in giro per la città.
